The 2nd National Flag was also known as the Stainless Banner. This flag replaced the Stars and Bars on May 1, 1863. There were two drawbacks to this flag. When the wind wasn’t blowing, the flag resembled a flag of truce due to the amount of white. It was also easily soiled. One of the first official uses of the flag was to cover the casket of General Stonewall Jackson. This flag also became known as the “Jackson Flag”.
